A New Web Ministry – The Church Online
Posted by: | CommentsHere at Web Ministry Online we are pleased to introduce you to a brand new web ministry, The Church Online. The Church Online is hoping to establish itself as an actual “church” (this will obviously require some redefining of what constitutes a church), not just an online extension of an existing church. More than a website to host sermons and Bible studies, The Online Church will seek for ways to incorporate believers from around the world to help minister to those who are “seeking” the Truth that is found in Christ alone.
From a Web Ministry perspective, The Church Online Website is still in the very early stages of development. The site currently has a Statement of Faith and a form where people can sign up to receive the free RSS and email subscription. The Church Online is hoping to have at least 100 people join and begin to pray for the development of the church. The site will then begin to add all the bells and whistles that will further define the web side of the church online.
We are looking forward to see what the future holds for the church online and what impact it will have on the Kingdom of God and on web ministry in general.
Web Ministry Domain/Sub-domain Trial – Part 1
Posted by: | CommentsOn Web Ministry we have had success with search engine results by using both domains and sub-domains for our websites. There are some advantage to both of these methods. Sometimes it is convenient to use a sub-domain because you can’t get a domain name that is even close to what you are trying to accomplish. Also, using sub-domains often allows you to take advantage of hosting space that is provided by web hosts (like Good News Domains) that is not always utilized. To see if there are any clear advantages or disadvantages to either method we are going to start two sites that will be nearly identical, one on its own domain and one as a sub-domain. We will then track the sites over the next year to see if there is any measurable difference that will help us draw some relevant SEO conclusions.
Our domain site will be Sunday School Online at www.sundayschoolonline.net. Our sub-domain site will be Online Sunday School at http://sundayschool.churchpastoronline.com. We started these sites within a couple of days of each other and we will bring them along together. What we do to one site we will also do to the other. The sites started out with the usual WordPress theme in place. Sunday School Online came into the world on March 1st, 2009 looking like this:
We have added a few plugins and a new theme and the site now looks like this:
Online Sunday School broke into the scene on February 28th, 2009 looking like this:
We added some plugins and a new theme and it now looks like this:
In the days ahead we will be working on the sites to get them ready for the trial. We will be adding content, getting them indexed, and looking for ways to make them useful and relevant. We will be checking in on the sites from time to time to see how they are doing and then we will be able to determine if there is any significant differnece for our web ministry sites in using domains or sub domains.
Web Ministry – 2009 SEO Experiment – Part 7
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s time for the latest updates on the web ministry experiment we are conducting. If you have been following the articles you will know that we have partnered with a couple of other sites to start four new websites and track their progress to help us all learn more about various SEO strategies to help impact web ministry.
Church Growth Consulting started a site called Church Marketing. So far the Church Marketing site has not been making any inroads on the search engines. The site is only two months old and that is not all that unusual. Sometimes a new site takes a while to start interacting with the search engines.
Over on Church Webmaster two sites were started; Christian Blog and Church Blog. The sites have been on and off the search engine results and each of the sites has gotten a little traffic in the month of February. It looks like both of these sites are about to spend some time in the sand box, so we will continue to monitor their progress.
On this site we atarted Church Pastor. Church Pastor has spent most of it’s time as a page two result on Google, but actually crept on to page one for a couple of days last week.
The site has had 70 unique visitors in February, most of which came when the site was up on page 1.
You can check out the keywords that brought people to the site over the last month:
We will continue to build links and add content to the site over the next month and then we will give you the latest results on the web ministry experiment.
